Phil White & Steve Carlson

(Thanks to Phil for forwarding these emails, a conversation with Steve Carlson...)

Happy Washington's Birthday, Class of 63 mates (I see that Bernie Madoff is now on the $1 bill),
In an e-mail in December, Yogi mentioned Steve Carlson of Cheyenne who went on to a career in film and television.  He was in a quartet with Johnny Hermansen, Harry's older brother, in high school.  I got to looking on the internet for information on Steve, found his home page and sent him an e-mail.  He replied a few days later and just recently sent me a notice about a novel he has written.  It occurred to me today you might like to see his e-mail and the details on his book.

Thanks to GoogleMaps.....

Thanks to GoogleMaps, I now know where Kentucky is.

Merry Christmas

Sounds like fun...

David,

Sounds like fun, but from Kentucky it's a little far.

Tiny Tim is a girl, and there's only one ghost (me)...

Wow, they've got lists for everything.

Saw Harry Hermanson's name there, too.

Anyway, I'm in a little Christmas play at California Actors Theatre in Longmont, Colorado. We had 3 shows last weekend and they went pretty well. Only 3 left this weekend.

Friday & Saturday 12/19 & 20 at 7:30pm

Sunday 12/21 at 2:00pm

"A Carol Christmas Story"

Loosely based on Dickens, except we're Lawyers instead of accountants (Phil is my role model), Tiny Tim is a girl, and there's only one ghost (me).

The website is not what you would call "Updated", but it tells how to get there. It's in Twin Peaks Mall.

You all qualify for the senior discount - $11.00 (I think) and they have free wine.

Hope you can come

Merry Christmas

I read quickly through the Social Security Death List today...

Hello all,

I read quickly through the Social Security Death List today looking for anyone born 1945 whose SS card was issued in Wyoming. I found M.D. Maupin died April, 1990. (Directory says 1988).

I also found Robert L. Pennock died 2004. Wasn't he a track star for East? (I don't see his name in the directory).

There were 611 names in the list -- from all of Wyoming. I'm not up to looking through 1944 birthdays.

If anyone wants to see scans of the home rooms from McCormick Jr. High in spring 1960, or from Churchill 1951-57, drop me an e-mail:
philwyoming@yahoo.

Phil White 307 742-9363

I am sure very few remember me....

Thanks to whoever started this thing..

I am sure very few remember me, but it is fun to read the comments and remember old times..

Does anyone out there remember Earlene Juggert from central 63?  She married someone named Art Brown and moved to California, but I even had a private eye trying to find her and I could not..

Sorry I did not make the reunion. I just could not drag myself back to Cheyenne for that as summer is a busy time in my business, but as usual, once I missed it, I was sorry!!

So anyone who remembers me.. drop a note to my email:
giacasto@yahoo.com.

I am up in Seattle now..

I'm happy for you that so many of your classmates were able to attend...

Dear Kathi,

I'm happy for you that so many of your classmates were able to attend the reunion for all who graduated in 1963.

You, however, seem to be "misoverestimating" my comment. I said that I was baffled as to why your group chose not to join the rest of us on Sunday morning in a room that had been reserved for the whole class of 1963. That's all. I'm still wondering . . . .

Judi Huffer Flett     jjfletaz@earthlink.net

I'm quite surprised and disappointed by your remarks...

Judy,

I'm quite surprised and disappointed by your remarks that Saint Mary's appeared to be "elusive" and "snubbing" to anyone at anytime during Reunion45 weekend.

It turned out to be such a wonderful weekend, especially for the St. Mary's group who are usually greatly outnumbered by many more attendees from East and Central.  We had the opportunity for fellowship with a good number of our fellow classmates that we had been able to locate and reconnect with through good networking & emails.

When we got together, there was a lot of sharing and exchanging of information going on throughout the weekend.  I believe friends want to reconnect with friends, no matter which school they went to, or what year they graduated in.

The idea of a reunion IS to reconnect with your friends and classmates which for most of us, included people from all three schools.

This reunion was a first for some, and an opportunity to reconnect with others we hadn't seen in 45 years.

Here's hoping more friends and classmates will be able to attend #50.

It was a great non-reunion!!

It was a great non-reunion!!

I had such a wonderful time seeing classmates and catching up.

Thank you Rick and Vicki and everyone else who contributed or just came.

The time went by so fast but I didn't hear one complaint all weekend.

We had some problems with our camera but I do have some good pictures. I look forward to seeing how yours came out.

Thanks again, Kathy (FINCH Gude)      kgude@tampabay.rr.com

Thanks to Joel and Phil for writing about our BFF Reunion 45.

Thanks to Joel and Phil for writing about our BFF Reunion 45.

I remember you both well (though neither of you probably remembers me at all).

Still, I'm at a loss as to why more of our classmates haven't written already to thank the BFFs for having the guts to go through with the reunion that made so many of us happy.

And, I'm totally baffled as to why there were so many classmates who weren't there -- for whatever reason.

Then, there's the elusive St. Mary's group (you know who you are) who chose to separate itself from the rest of us on Sunday morning (and before?). Did you all just want to hang out with people you could better connect with, Or was it a deliberate snub to the rest of us? Care to share your opinions?

If by sharing our feelings and opinions we can make our 50th reunion the best possible, then let's do it.

Get the juices flowing, connect with each other, network until we get it right. Don't wait until it's too late to get the job done.

Oh, and find all those old pictures! After all, everybody has a story.

Judi Huffer Flett    jjfletaz@earthlink.net

Where is Mary Hanger???

My thanks also to those who made the recent shindig so memorable!

I was looking at the On-line Directory today and noticed that Mary Hanger is not listed among the '63 graduates. I have brought that to the attention of Rick Ammon.

Do any of you know where Mary might be??

Phil White     smithnorth@yahoo.com

Would love to reconnect with some of my classmates!

I am so sorry that I was unable to attend the reunion.

Hope that someone will post pictures taken at the happening.

I would love to hear about everyone and would really like to make the 50th.

Also very disappointed in classmates.com. It seems to be there only for the money and never seems that I get any information.

Do you have a list of the e-mail addresses that could be shared on this site?

I know there must be others that live in Ca. and maybe would like to get together.

Hope that everyone had a fabulous time at the event.

Would love to reconnect with some of my classmates!

Thanks to Dennis, Rick, Vici...

Thanks to Dennis, Rick, Vici, and all others who helped plan this 45th get-together.

It was mellow, friendly, and I drove home the 10 hours with memories of a nice weekend.

Question? How come You that I talked to seemed to remember the mischief that I got into, even as far back as 3rd grade???

It was fun, and good to see all of you in good health, good memories, (home runs in Little League), and I enjoyed the photos of kids, classes, grand-Kids, and yearbook.

Thanks again for organizing a nice weekend.

Hints to make the Reunion weekend run smoothly

Dear Classmates,

August 1 will be here before you know it, so we wanted to pass on a few updates to help make the weekend run as smooth as possible.

  • If you are flying in to Denver, renting a car away from the airport area will be considerably cheaper.  Shuttle busses run to various motels, etc. where you can rent a car.  Of course this is just a suggestion.  Many people may be arriving on Friday so if we know your arrival time maybe some of you would like to carpool to get a car or ride up to Cheyenne.
  • The special room rate at Oak Tree Inn is good only until June 15.
  • Remember to bring pictures, yearbooks and other memorabilia from High School and remember to bring pictures of your family!
  • Also, we would like everyone, whether you are coming or not, to send in a short resume to share with our group. It will be sort of a quick icebreaker if we know something about your past before we get together. This can also be added to the class web page “What we’ve been doin” page later. www.cheyenne63.com
  • Remember, no reservations are required for the functions but we sure would like to know if you, and yours, are coming.  Picture nametags (cheaters) would be fun to have but we need a little time to put them together before the event.  Or, of course, you can just drop in, that’s fine too.
  • There are still some people we have not been able to locate, or can’t find a current address for.  If you have any idea where any of these people are please contact them yourselves, or let one of us know so we can make contact... Joan Bennett, Mike Culver, Rita Hamilton, Richard Krueger, Mike Maupin, Carol Murphy, Penny Rex, Polly Sargent, Petra Kleinermann.  We will have a current roster of all the classmates we have found available, or I can always email that to you (the program is in Excel).

Looking forward to seeing ALL of you in August!!

Will never return to that frozen wasteland.

Will never return to that frozen wasteland. Left nothing behind, (memories, friends?, or anything else worthy of my returning).

I have forgotten Central, except the weather. Let's leave it that way. Take me off your mailing list.

I had disappeared for years before I started getting mailings. Forget me as I have already returned the favor. I had no choice but to attend Central, but I exercise my choice to excise all recollections.

Goodbye, forever!

If you have any information about Terry Loray Wilson....

I came across this link when I googled my fathers name. Terry Loray Wilson was my father.

He and mother divorced when I was about 10 years old after we had moved to Colorado. We lost contact with him for the most part other than an occasional visit.

He passed away in 1995 the year I graduated high school. Just thought I would email to let you know.

If you have any information you could provide me with in regards to my father and his high school days that might be kind of cool to see.

Thank you,

Heather Loray Richardson (Wilson)

I can not thank you enough...

To the Class of 1963,

I have had to take a little time to get to the point where I could write this note to you. And it took me a bit of time to find this website.

I am Albert Lucas’ wife and I wanted to express my gratitude to those of you who took the time to reach out to him when you heard that he was dying.

The letters that you sent that were filled with memories brought a smile to his face as I read them to him, and he recalled not only who you were, he remembered many of the incidents that you spoke of. I can not thank you enough for giving him that joy during those last few weeks.

I especially want to thank Vici Foster for implementing the letter writing campaign. Her compassion for his well-being and her ingenuity in finding some way to bring a little happiness into his life during that time is a real blessing to the class of 63. The world needs more Vici Fosters!

We have our reservations for the Reunion...

I have my plane reservations to make the reunion as it is the weekend of August 1.

I'm glad there will be something, even though it is casual.

Danae Hovis Wadsworth, Judi Burright Littrell, and Dotty Sharp Hunt and I are all going to meet for the reunion. Judi and Dot, in Denver, and then will drive to Cheyenne and meet Danae. We are all staying at Little America. Danae works for BC/BS and loves that hotel, so that's where we will be.

I'm looking forward to seeing you and anyone else that decides to show up.

Decided I'd better make this trip, as who knows what's in store for any of us......

Vicky FIELDMAN Piscitello.

Don't hesitate!

Tanya (and others)!

Don't hesitate! We're all far removed from high school (thank goodness for most of us), but we can all kick back and enjoy ourselves exactly the way we choose. Nobody to impress now. Show up, have fun!

And I do remember you well.

Judi Huffer Flett

Thank you BFF's, whoever you are!

Thank you BFF's, whoever you are!

Glad you had the cojones to go ahead with this reunion.

Since I was waiting for an e-mail that didn't arrive, you didn't get my "yes" vote.

Hope to see many of my St. Mary's Classmates in August. This will be my first class reunion. Wahoo!  Looking forward to reconnecting with St. Mary's classmates and friends.

It would be nice if everyone would update or send a short bio to this site
before the reunion.

Pamela Braziel-Slaughter

The Gaymons will be there

The Gaymons will be there and I think I can talk Mike Padget into coming too.

Thanks for all of your hard work.

Lee Gaymon

Hope to make it to the reunion...

Hope to make it to the reunion. That would be my first reunion.

Happy to hear it is casual. Life in Califrornia tends to be casual and I love it.

Hope to see people to reconnect with but after 45 years the memories have faded and I am not sure I will know anyone who attends.

Tanya Bailey Monk

Don't Wait...

For those of you who feel that going to this 45th Reunion is a waste of time or have the attitude, "I'll wait for the 50th!", you might wait TOO LONG!

Statistics show more of our classmates WILL PASS in the next five years than in any 15 year period before now!

The Class of 1959 has 87 deceased classmates compared to our 63. Statistics say that in the next five years, we will lose at least another 20 or more. That's nearly 6% of us who remain today!

We've just learned another classmate is gone. Terry Wilson.

So, if you're saying, "I'll see all my friends at the 50th!", it might be your friends who WON'T SEE YOU there!

Plan to attend REUNION45 in August...

45th REUNION IS ON!!

You're invited to the 45th Reunion of Cheyenne High Schools Class of 1963.

Yes, there will definitely be a Reunion45. The weekend of August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Pay As You Go!  Neither reunion reservation nor deposit required!

We heard your requests and read your emails for fellowship with your classmates this year, even if it meant just hangin’ out together somewhere or a picnic in the park. So, we set up Reunion45 over that weekend so you can have that fellowship! See old buddies and friends from 1963, again!

Forget your gowns and suits, girls and boys!  This is a casual shindig all the way.

Disclaimer:  Due to the expenses involved and limited responses, the official Reunion Committee voted not hold a formal reunion this year. So, this casual "get-together" (Renuion45) has been organized by four of your classmates, "Class of '63 BFF".  We know EVERYONE will show up for a great time!

Linda Forister Adams Writes Us

I just looked at the Website to see where you were at with the reunion.  I
was one of the ones who did not respond.  Because of my job, it is really
hard to get away during certain times of the year. Knowing I wouldn't be
able to be there, I didn't feel it would be fair for me to respond.

I am the only student loan processor at the University of Nebraska Medical
Center.  I will be retired before our 50th reunion and I do plan to attend.

I don't have anything to add to my profile since I last filled it out.
Still live in Bellevue Nebraska, still have two children and 6
grandchildren.  I do come to Cheyenne once in awhile to visit relatives.

Hope this finds you well and thank you for being on the committee.  I know
that is a lot of hard work.

Sincerely,
Linda Forister Adams - Central

Information Requested About Pam Kuwatch

Hello,

My name is Kelly Tarter-Rowley and I am Pam Kuwatch's (married name Tarter) daughter.  As you know, my mother passed away 17 years ago (1991) this July at the age of 46.

I now have two children of my own and although I was 20 when she died, I didn't get to hear all of the stories of her when she was young to be able to pass on to my children.  Nor do I have many pictures of her to share from her high school and younger years.

It is my hope that I can pass on her spirit and her story to my children.

Here is where I am hoping you can help me.  If you have pictures of her or stories to share, please contact me.  Even if you know of other individuals I could contact who could share those with me, please call or email.  Tomorrow (March 9th) is her birthday.

My mother was a wonderful woman and I just want to know more so I can share that wonderful woman with my children, even if she isn't here to share it herself.

Thank you.

Please feel free to contact me at rowleyfamily@bellsouth.net or call 770/ 329-1343.

Thank you again.

Kelly

It's all about getting together !!

I'd just like for us to do something, no matter how cheap or casual.

For me, it's all about getting together with the people, even if we hang out at the park and BYOB.

Judi Huffer Flett

It's NOT Too Late!!

I suppose it's too late, but if your decision to cancel the reunion is based on lack of response to the mailings - I never got a mailing, and I never got an email. I think my stuff is up to date in the directory. I would have voted YES.

Don't let 15 Fuddy-Duddies spoil it for everyone. The 40 "YES" votes can bring 10 grand-kids, and we got a quorum for Uncle Charlies.

I noticed on the Class of 59 (man, those guys are REALLY old) website
http://www.cheyenneclassof1959.org/, they have occasional "Mini-Reunions" and picnics, and an orgy I think.

Oh, well. Don't forget Daylight Saving Time. "SPRING UP & FALL OVER".

I got a Frontier Days brochure in the mail today (THEY have my address) and there were pictures of the 'artists' doing the night show entertainment - I couldn't name one of them if my life depended on it. I must be a country music moron these days. WHAT ?? Buck Owens is dead??

Goodbye for now, class of 63 - You boys get your prostates checked.

Dave Barkley

Hi from Joel Monson

(The following was received in late October and being posted now...Rick from The Committee)

Hi,

I have just retired from teaching and am no longer bound by a school schedule.  That had prevented me from coming to the 40th reunion.

I will be there next summer, and hope it is as good as I heard the last one was.

My new mailing address is:  Joel Monson---PO Box 1479---Thayne, Wy  83127.

Thanks for the hard work on planning.

Comment

I read with interest Lloyd Hashimoto's recently posted comment in Yakkety Yak. I recall early years (pre - High School) sock Hops being hosted free admission by one of the local radio stations. Be that as it may, Lloyd's concerns still warrant addressing.

The other letter by Pat McGinley Burdick also addressed a need to attempt to promote interaction between former classmates.

This was at least a part of the incentive in activating this website, and in posting the "What We've Been Doing" section. This section was meant, not just for sharring accomplishments, but to point out similarities and shared interests with classmates (as well as assist with conversation starters). The success of this section continues to require the input of all.

In reference to Lloyd's other comment regarding his feelings as an outsider during high school years, I think he might be surprised to find that a goodly portion of his classmates also felt like outsiders too for a lot of varying reasons (socio-econimic; wrong figure type; acne problems etc. etc. etc). Teen years were full of feelings of inadequacy for many, if not most of us.

I personally found the last reunion to be a gathering of reacquainting with classmates and mingling old times, with a sharing of who we are now. Advanced age and maturity; mortality of classmates we've lost, and the recognition of our own mortality seemed to heighten the important characteristics and feelings.

I truly believe it is the interest of all people assisting with the reunions to do everything possible to add to the comfort and enjoyment of all attendees, and would be more than happy for any assistance and/or suggestions to that end.

Excluded from Activities

(The following was received in early November, but should be shared and is being posted now...Rick from The Committee)

Cheyenne63 committee:

In the past, many (high school activity - Editor) themes were based on the small percentage of affluent families and their experiences. Perhaps, one should look at a more general coverage of time to include those families that were growing up in lower social economic groups and who did not have access to Sock Hops and other activities other few reminice about.  You must remember that Central was a public school the the diverse social economic groups were wide.

As I grew up, I was excluded from those activities because I was the local "Jap" and many fathers never came back from the war.  I was the scape goat of the rath of white majority.  Many others were poor white, ethnic, or did not fit in the popular cliques.

If you desire to make a good reunion, then include activities that can include everyone from all walks of life.  Make it so that they do not feel uncomfortable and that as a class we are glad to see them.

The task is staggering for many who dealt with their own clique.  I do not mean that remark as a weapon or a lash out toward people, but it is the reality.

I apologize to the committee for not being able to make it to your meeting.  I am heavily overloaded with committments to the end of the month.

Hi from Kentucky.

Hi from Kentucky.

Pat and I were busy last summer with two trips on the motorcycle to NY, VM, PA, etc. Two trips to Colorado in the car and a few other short ones.

I have started another hobby (had to have something to do besides ride the bike, do computer work, Sell Seabiotics from my site
http://home.seabiotics.com/seaforlife and all my honey-do lists. Started wood turning. It's lots of fun and keeps me out of Pat's hair!

This could be a great blog if people will use it.

We won't be able to be at the 45th but plan on the 50th.

Reunion Ideas

(The following was received in late October, but very worthy of being posted now...Rick from The Committee)

Dear Vici:

Thanks for the invitation to attend the reunion meeting.  While I'd love to be there, it's hard for me to do on a week night.

I thought the one and only reunion I attended (the last one) was planned and executed extremely well.

As far as ideas, I've been remiss in that here I've let it get down to the last minute and haven't been giving it any thought.  I did check out a couple of web sites and although several ideas that they mentioned were done at the last reunion, there were a couple more that sounded interesting.

At http://www.reunionlocation.com/htm/class.html they suggested a "Hi Ho Silver" theme with a western theme food, hay rides and decorations.  There are also some GREAT ideas at http://www.stretcher.com/stories/980521a.cfm (time capsules made up of 45's, copies from the yearbooks).  They said to go to www.history channel.com to get stories about 1963.

I also know every copy of the "Tribune" and "Eagle" are on micro fische at the history museum which would be more localized.  They also suggest photocopying a yearbook and decoupaging each table with miscellaneous photos covered by clear heavy plastic tablecloths or photocopy LP covers and intersperse them with class photos.

Of course, we don't want a carbon copy of the last one, but our pictures on the buttons and our senior photos on the projector are a couple of things I think should be done again.  I wasn't able to go on the tour and I thought that was an outstanding idea, but here again, can it be changed up and still be effective?

I went by myself to the last reunion, which was hard to do.  Since it had been 40 years, there were only a few people I remembered and likewise only a few remembered me.  I tried very hard to "work" that crowd and for the most part, a lot of people didn't want to really talk to anyone they didn't come with or budge from their seats.  I can't help but wonder why some were there.

I think this would be the most successful reunion ever if a way could be figured to get the attendees to actually talk to one another--maybe some games like the cake-walk theme (how about everyone sitting in the 3rd chair at dinner trading with the person sitting in the 5th chair at the table behind them and the person in the 1st chair trading with #6).   I think it would be more fun to try and be as interactive as possible.  This might mean "playing" after dinner rather than dancing which also alienates people.

I've had another thought I'd like to pass on.  How about taking group pictures of everyone who attended each grade school, each junior high and each high school.  I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to spark a memory.

I attended St. Mary's in kindergarten only--that was the last year the old school was used.  I don't have a lot of memories other than spending most of my time in the coat closet and when part of the ceiling fell down right beside us as we were lining up to go home.  Of course, Sister Kaylin told us we weren't to tell our parents and of course, that's the first thing I told my Mom.  I only know of one other person who was in my class, Judy Huffer, and it would be fun to talk to others who were also.

I think it's important now that we're getting older to stir up memories that have been long forgotten.

Please let me know what you come up with and I'll be glad to help.

Meeting Minutes 2/7/08

Cheyenne63 Class Reunion
Committee Meeting Minutes
February 7, 2008

Those in attendance: Richard Ammon; Suzanne Bales Dawson; Ronny Defler Prall; Ed Harper; Vicki Foster; Barbara Hunter Ross; Chuck Kisicki; Bobby Peel; Don Shepard

Regrets sent due to prior commitments: Jim Barrett; Mike Gregorio; Joseph Kishman

Suzanne began the meeting by stating that she had a two item agenda for the meeting.

1st item - question has been posed in regard to possibility of identity theft and/or email farming for purposes of spam off our website. Rick Ammon addressed the issue by stating that the site has been up for 5 years now and there haven't been any complaints lodged. We will most certainly remove any data any individual has any concerns about, all they need do is send a request to Committee@Cheyenne63.com.

Vicki Foster requested the floor prior to continuing with the second item on the agenda. She read her written response to a telephone request by Bob Peel (at the suggestion of the committee) that although she resigned as committee chair, would she consider continuing to remain as a member of the committee. Bottom line was that she would prefer not to remain with the committee, but she did agree to share the responses she received from the October mailing with the remaining group.

2nd agenda item - Rather than relying on the response of a sampling of committee members in regard to a 45th class reunion, the committee has agreed to poll classmates currently reachable through mail/email to determine the extent of existing interest. To that end, we will be sending out a mailing posing four possible scenarios for consideration by classmates, as well as a request for comments & suggestions. A deadline for responses will be March 1st in order that we can proceed in a timely manner. Barbara will put together a mailing format and email to committee members for acceptance and/or changes and additions. Suzanne will shop for materials for the postal mailing. Ed will be making some contacts in relation to assistance with postal stamping. Bob will check with post office for size and format restrictions to postal mailing. Every attempt will be made to get this mailing out as quick as possible.

Other Business - Notes on the 50th reunion: Rick again reminded us that he has made tenative reservations for the 1st weekend in August (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) at the Cheyenne Depot for the 50th Reunion. Actual reservations will still be required & he suggests they be made 1 - 2 years in advance. Suzanne suggested a possible theme for the 50th to be "On Golden Pond".

Recognition and appreciation was voiced for the work being done by Pamela Braziel Slaughter; Kathy Finch Gude and Judi Flett in updating location information on classmates.

Next meeting (with the exception of a mailing work meeting) has been changed to March 6th 5:00p.m. @ Laramie County Library, Wildflower room on third floor.

Meeting adjourned.

Barbara Hunter Ross

Wish every success...

Thanks to the newly reorganized reunion committee for assuming the responsibility of planning our 45th high school reunion.

I sincerely wish them every success.

I can't figure out the Yakkkkey thing - too many k's.

I can't figure out the Yakkkkey thing - too many k's.

Hope there is still some sort of Reunional Moment this summer.

Don't forget - I have a 'Central' coffee cup for a door prize.  I just now, this minute, realized that a 'Central' cup might offend those other two "schools".  It is actually a Cheyenne High School cup (Class-o-'44).

I saw somewhere a while back (I think it was Classmates.com) that the class of '68 was having a reunion.  Hell, lets just crash theirs - what's the problem? - Yogi always comes to ours.

If anybody gets a chance - you can come to Longmont and see me in a Play.  "On Golden Pond" at The California Actor's Theatre.  We got a pretty good review in the local paper.  My middle name is Norman, so ....  uh ....  I forgot what I was going to say.  Anyway it runs Fridays & Saturdays (at 7:30pm) through February 23, and there are Sunday Matinee's (at 2:00pm on February 3 and 17.

Would love to see anybody - somebody - lots of people.

Keep going with the plans you have.....

I was very disappointed to read the Jan. minutes of the reunion committee and learn there were those who were in doubt that the reunion should be held this summer.

I feel that the tradition of holding class reunions is very important, especially now as people are retiring. Our lives are changing and, unfortunately, we are all getting older. Longtime friendships are treasures and having the opportunity to get together for this one weekend every five years, (and for some it has been 45 years), is a wonderful event. The empty nesters can have that special time with their old buds on their old stomping ground for just a little while longer.

Who knows how many more of us will be on the Memory page in five years.

Give us the chance to have this time together. Keep going with the plans you have, everything will come together and the turnout will be fantastic.

Keep it simple but keep it going, please.

Reunion Committee Meeting Jan 16 2008

Under threat of abandonment of any 45th year reunion, over 10 class members assembled at Uncle Charlie’s January 16, to discuss alternatives. Several others sent regrets that prior commitments made it impossible for them to attend.

Although I only took a couple sketchy notes, I was asked to report what I had to the website in order to share at least some of what we came up with. My hope is that any other attendees will fill in anything I have missed.

Vici Foster has resigned as leader of the committee.

A review was given, by Rick Ammon and Suzanne Bales Dawson, relating to locations checked into for the reunion. Rick also shared that, looking ahead, he had also taken the opportunity to reserve the Depot for the 50th reunion for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, should we want to use it. It was not available this year.

Taking into consideration cost and other restrictions, possibilities receiving a positive nod were, the Buckle Club with Uncle Fred (of Pine Bluffs) catering a dinner; and Uncle Charlie’s for a brunch.

Those attending were polled as to desired outcome of the 45th year reunion.... none, 1 day, or 3 day. A one day reunion came out the leader.

It was decided to attempt a mailing, polling classmates, in general, as to interest/feasability of attendance of a 45th reunion, prior to continuing on.

Email addresses obtained from the class website will serve as primary contact. Snail mail addresses from website will be used for alternate contact. A March 1st deadline will be given for responses to allow time for follow through.

Next meeting will be held February 7th at 7:00p.m. @ Laramie County Library.

Ron Ross welcomes you to China!

I am now "Hotel Service Manager" at the Aurum International Hotel, Xi'an, Shaanxi, Peoples Republic of China, which means I am to oversee Housekeeping Department, Food & Beverage Department (hotel restaurants); Front Office, which is primarily Front Desk and Bell Boys, and anything else that deals with service to our guests.

Quite a big jump up and it keeps me busier than hell, but I really am enjoying it. It's fun to walk into a restaurant or the lobby, etc., and everyone stands up and gives me a small bow. Ha Ha. Like I've died and become the new Emperor.

I'm a long way from home. But you know, I've been here for almost 3 years now, and sometimes it seems more like home than California does.

In case anyone braves a tour of China, you really should do it before August next year (2008) and the Olympics. I can tell you it is going to be one hell of a "Mad House." They brag about being ahead of schedule. But so much "Chinese" is fascia and nothing more, I can't wait to see all the problems they will have. But if anyone comes this way, a visit to Xi'an is always on the tour, so please anyone coming feel free to give me a call and let's set up a meeting while you're in town.

Hello From Ken Willis

Hello:

I think my bio already states that I have been a lawyer in Colorado
since 1977, but something that is new is that I was sworn into
the Wyoming State Bar November 2nd.

Colorado and Wyoming do not have reciprocity so I had to take the Wyoming Bar
Exam.  That was a daunting and risky endeavor.  Risky because of the
personal humiliation that I would have suffered had I failed it, as
many older lawyers many years out of law school are prone to do.
I wanted to be admitted in Wyoming for several reasons not the least
of which is that I grew up in Wyoming and wanted to be a part of the
Bar in Wyoming.

My wife and I built a house in Jackson a few years ago and we now
spend more and more time in Wyoming.

There was a jolt I felt when reading the page with the names of
those classmates who have died.  I have not kept up with any of my
high school classmates but saw some names there that brought back
many memories.   Even though you don't always know what has happened
to the kids you knew when you were young you sort of like to think
they are still out there living a good life.  This page forces you to
realize that many of them aren't.  Some of them left this life much
too soon.  The realization is that life is precious and short.

1963 was a great year.  By the way, did you know that 1963 was the
last year those buttons on light poles that say "push button to cross
street" were actually connected to anything?  1963 was also the last
year that pecan pie was considered to be good for you.  What a great
year.

All the best to everyone in the Class of 1963,

Ken Willis

Class of 63 Reunion Committee meeting of Thursday, November 29

Class of 63 reunion committee met Thursday, November 29.  Those attending were Rick Ammon, Suzanne BALES Dawson, Chuck Kisicki, Dennis Davis, and Vici Foster.

Dennis had contacted the Plains for more information and was told we could reserve a block of guest rooms at a discounted rate of $89 per night.  He will continue checking alternative options such as the Legion, the Moose Club, the VFW and check if we can get discounted guest room rates at some of the more affordably priced hotel/motels.  He will go back to the Plains again to see if we can still get a guest room rate if we have only the Friday icebreaker and the Sunday brunch there.

Suzanne checked out:
The Buckle Club - $300 rent + $550 deposits (refundable) + caterer + beer/wine and snacks.
The Elks Club - $400 rent + caterer + bartender
The best price for catering was Uncle Fred’s. Suzanne will confirm with them for the night of August 2nd.  Seems the Buckle Club is our best option so far.  She will contact them for additional information.

Rick reported that The Depot is already booked for 2008; however, he reserved it for our 50th in 2013.  Good to plan ahead.  He also found that chartering a bus/trolley is $100 per hour + tip to the driver.  He agreed to report on possible Downtown Plaza and Tent rental at the next meeting.

Chuck will contact the Knights of Columbus Hall to see if they might have something suitable for the Saturday night dinner.

Also discussed was the small number of classmates showing interest in being part of the committee.  Even though we have received a good amount of interest in a 2008 reunion from those residing elsewhere, we all feel unable to proceed without more committee members.  Canceling is a strong possibility.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11th, 7PM, at the library.

The second meeting...

The second meeting...

Was held November 15th.  Those attending were Chuck Kisicki, Mike Gregorio, Dennis Davis, Rick Ammon, Suzanne BALES Dawson, and Vici Foster.  Rosemary KORTE Torres and Darald Dykeman were absent (Darald was soaking up sun in Florida!).

Mike agreed to start creating a database using Rick's data from the Classmate Directory on our web site.
Report of the time/place research was given by Dennis and discussion ensued.  Seems prices at the four main hotels with facilities for reunions (Hitching Post, Holiday Inn, Little America, and Plains) have increased to the point of being beyond our budget.

A brainstorming session of alternatives resulted in Dennis, Rick, and Suzanne agreeing to research further options and report back to the committee at the next meeting.  It is our hope to find suitable location/s which will allow attendees to gather between reunion events yet be affordable to as many as possible.

Rick said chartered city bus/trolley service from of the more reasonable hotel/motels to a reunion location can be very reasonable and is checking on that possibility.

A wonderful surprise!!  Carolyn VIOX Merchant was in town visiting her daughter and stopped by the meeting for a few minutes to say hello.  Gosh - talk about "hasn't changed a bit" - not a doubt you would have no trouble recognizing her if you were to pass her on the street.  So great to see her!  Thanks for stopping in, Carolyn!

Our next meeting is November 29th, 7PM, at the library.

Everyone is welcome.  Please come!

The first planning meeting for the 45th Class of ‘63 reunion...

The first planning meeting for the 45th Class of ‘63 reunion was held Tuesday, October 30th.

Those attending were Rosemary KORTE Torres and Chuck Kisicki representing St. Mary’s; Mike Gregorio representing Central; and Darald Dykeman, Dennis Davis, and I, Vici FOSTER, represented East.  Suzanne BALES Dawson was absent due to a death in the family and Rick Ammon was driving the Cheyenne trolley during one of the Halloween Ghost Tours.

It was great to see these classmates again and of course we spent a few minutes “catching up”.

Our first discussion concerned a time and place for the next reunion.  It seems more convenient for those attending from out of town when we use a hotel rather than several locations and it’s nice to visit in the lobby and get reacquainted.  Due to members being involved with preparation for Fourth of July and Frontier Days activities, it was decided we would stick with our customary early August dates, if possible. Also, late August may be inconvenient for any who are raising school age children and for those who teach or work in the school system.

Dennis volunteered to contact The Hitching Post, The Holliday Inn, Little America, and The Plains Hotel to see what kind of a deal we can get.

Mike volunteered to create a new database for us in Excel so it can easily be used by those on the reunion committee as needed and so that the data can be saved for future reunions.

Up to date contact information is still missing for quite a number of our classmates.  Rosemary will be doing some research and try to locate as many as possible.  This is a big job for one person.  Please look through the list of those unaccounted for on our website at cheyenne63.com and help update the class contact list by providing current contact info on yourself and any other classmates you can.  Forward the information to us at committee@cheyenne63.com or by posting to our blog (click Yakkety Yak on the website).

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 15th, in the Windflower Room on the third floor of the Laramie County Library.

In addition to reports from Dennis, Rosemary, and Mike, we will discuss a few additional roles necessary to do what will need to be done. To ensure a successful reunion, many details and arrangements need to be taken care of.

We have received a good response from those classmates who no longer reside in Cheyenne. Most are looking forward to attending the reunion in 2008; many have not attended in the past.

Your reunion committee will need more help!

If you are in the area and...

...are willing to help plan activities and events, please come to the meeting.
...are willing to help with contacts and communication, please come to the meeting.
...are willing to give your opinions and suggestion, please attend the meeting!
...can give moral support, please come to the meeting!

We need all the help we can get.  Please, come to the meeting!

Please don’t hesitate to get involved.  We have a lot of work to do but we also have a lot of fun!

Sincerely,

Vici

WELCOME TO THE NEW YAKKETY YAK

PLEASE READ.....

This area of your Cheyenne63 web site will be improved with the use of a blog, virtually unknown when YAKKETY YAK was created in 2003.

This new YAKKETY YAK will give a great deal more flexibility for your entries.

It'll be a place where you can find information about upcoming activities such as planning meetings for reunions, details about an upcoming reunion, and the reunion follow up.  Of course, you'll be able to contribute ideas about those activities here.

This is your YAKKETY YAK where you can create categories for discussion. It'll be much less limited than the old area. If you want a special category, contact the web master at committee@cheyenne63.com and we'll get it added.

For now, it'll be easier to update your life's information and/or changes in your address and/or email address by senting them to the same "committee" email address above.

We need any information updates about you and other classmates that you have. Thanks for keeping the web site up-to-date.

BTW, "Trackbacks" refers to linking articles from another web site to this and, at this time, it doesn't seem necessary; therefore, Trackbacks is not activated.
